As we live out our lives in the modern day and age, we find ourselves increasingly orientating our lifestyles and daily activities around the innovative technology at our fingertips. Technology, whilst occupying a greatly influential and significant role in our lives, can also, when misused, become immensely harmful and poisonous to one’s soul, a phenomenon we are witnessing first hand living in the West. Not a day goes pass that we don’t find ourselves dominated by the Western media be it when watching the daily soaps and dramas or even the hourly news headlines. The media is not just limited with television; another branch of the media is what we know as the ‘Internet’.

The Internet, with over half a billion users worldwide, boasts millions of secular educational websites and provides a great archive for multimedia, documents, articles and pictures. Despite the positives and the benefits, the use of the Internet and the Western media overall, is marred by the blatant vulgar content available, which in turn promotes pseudo-desires and egoistic tendencies in a person, taking them off the path to Allah and putting them on the path towards the devil.

Have we ever taken a few minutes to contemplate on what we are watching, how we are investing our spare time and what kind of content we are filling the container of our heart with? The blessed Prophets and Imams put great importance on keeping great vigil on what one hears and views, as the path from the eyes and the ears leads directly to the heart, the most important component in both the body and the soul of a person.

The solution to the problems caused by the media does not lie in disassociating oneself from the media tools available, rather it is to reform the reason for which one uses the media, instead of using the media as the ends, use the media tools available as one of the the means to get closer to Allah. As Muslims, we firmly believe that this world is transient and that the permanent abode is the hereafter, our purpose in this temporary world is to prepare ourselves for the next world, and the best way to go about preparing for the hereafter is to do everything for the sake of Allah.

At Al-Masumeen we plan to use the media tools available to provide you with high quality Islamic multimedia ranging from Dua videos to recent inspiring lectures to satisfy your needs for both media and more importantly, the quest for Islamic knowledge, ethics and spirituality. Our video projects include: translating mourning poems (Latmiyya/Noha) for the tragedies which befell the family of the Prophet as well as poems of praise (Nasheeds); creating Dua powerpoints for a range of supplications; gathering Quran recitations by various Qari's and adding both English and Arabic subtitles to the video; compiling video lectures given by renown Shi'i scholars and lecturers as well as providing Islamic documentaries and many exquisite motion picture films. We are also planning to embark upon a new video project, creating powerpoint videos for the Ziyarat of the blessed 14 infallibles, with Ziyarat Nahiya being our first release in this regard, may Allah give us all the strength to continue serving in His path sincerely.
